The power of the internet never ceases to amaze me.  In a culture where “social networking” can often leave you overwhelmed with information and yet still unconnected. It was for this reason that I was happy to have been followed by the Couch Brothers.

I was instantly attracted to Electric Gypsy 2.1′s  artwork. I hadn’t heard of the duo before, but the name reminded me of Devin The Dude’s Coughee Brothers. That is about as far as the comparisons went. The introduction track was “Time,” a smooth and soulful ballad that my uncle would jam, followed by “No One Cares,” a lyrical joint that reminded me of Black Thought of The Roots. This project incorporated many genres of music with precision. When Rock visited the Orchestra in “She (Hard Lovin’),” I was aware I was dealing with some hardcore music lovers.

I was taken back to the West when I heard the funky “Smoke Screen.”  The perfect title for a production that E-40 or Snoop Dogg would be disappointed they didn’t flow on. (R.I.P. Nate Dogg)  “You & Me” nearly made me step in the name of love. I was already feeling good at this point, but “Music” elevated me to Cloud 9. After hitting repeat on “Betta Know,” “This Urge”  evoked the essence of the late Gerald Levert or the acoustic sounds of Raul Midon.

Be on the lookout for Greedmont’s upcoming interview with the Couch Brothers! Be sure to follow them on Twitter. I thoroughly enjoyed Electric Gyspy 2.1 from the moment I pressed ‘Play.’ Purchase it today, May 25th, on Amazon.
